Port Quin Farm Holidays - News

New website coming soon!!

We have been working on a new website during the lockdown period. The new site will have a much more simple online booking system. It will also feature our other property options “The salty shepherds hut” and Marks' two shipping container cabins “PQ1” and “PQ2” which are currently just listed on Airbnb.

Following government guidlines we are hoping to open again in July if it is deemed safe and sensible to do so. We have been planning extra cleaning measures and practices to ensure the safety of our guests and our team. If you have an existing booking or a provisional booking we will be in touch with more information. Or feel free to contact us on email.

Many thanks

Fishermans friends movie

Just a quick update to say the Fishermans freinds movie is now out! Its being screened nationwide so if its it near you, go and check it out. We went to see it and thought it was brilliant! Great to see all the local characters, that we know so well on the big screen. We often share a few beers and have a sing along with the bouys in the golden lion. The movie also mentions the tale of Port Quin and the song that the boys sing about it.

Happy New Year 2019!

We are looking forward to another busy year on the farm for 2019.

We hope to see lots of new and returning guests to enjoy our little bit of North Cornwall. We will be lambing the sheep this year in Febuary, so if you fancy a half term break with the children there will be lots to see and do on the farm, along with the usual beach walks and exploring.

We are also putting some new play (toddler - 10yrs freindly) equipment up at the cottages to keep the little ones entertained.

For the Doc Martin enthusiast theres a new series being filmed in Port Isaac this year, so you can go and see it in the making if you fancy it! Or if you just want some peice and quiet, you can wander down to port Quin and watch the tide sweep in and out of the beautiful bay.

We will be running our kayak and SUP sessions from Port Quin again from Easter, so let us know if you want to come out on the water this season.

All the best for 2019

Spring time on the farm!

The Daffs are out and the Lambs are jumping on the farm! Spring is a great time to explore Cornwalls coast and the amazing flowers along the cliff tops. Its been a slow start to spring this year but twith the forecast improving, now is the time to book up a stay for some adventures in North Cornwall. The walking and beaches are great at this time of year, its also much easier to get a table in one of the amazing local fish restaraunts in Port Isaac and Padstow.

Give us a call or email about short break prices and availability. See you soon!

Foodie paradise in North Cornwall!

If you fancy a nice Foodie weekend, or short break near Port Isaac this Winter then get in touch.

Email with your dates and number of people etc,  i can get back to you with a quote.

We are a mile as the crow flies, from the bottom of Port Isaac, where you will find the famous Nathan Outlaws "Fish Kitchen" restaraunt. There are also quite a few other great places to get some good pub grub, or something a bit different, should you fancy it.

My favourite place in the old Village is "The Mote" which serves up really good meat and sea food, with a relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful old building, overlooking the "Platt" beside the harbour. The Golden Lion is Port Isaac's propper pub, where a fish and chips will fill you up, alongside a good local ale and a roaring fire! Just up the hill is the "Olde School Hotel" where you can also dine on some great food. This is where my Dad and Grandad both went to school back in the day, before they moved the school to the top of the village.

Venture out of the village and theres a wealth of lovely places to eat and drink but Port Isaac is walking distance or a very quick taxi ride if you are organised!

Kayak and SUP tours Port Isaac, Port Quin and Port Gaverne, Cornwall

We have been getting a great spell of early Summer season weather here on the farm and out on the water.

The Fishermands freinds have played their first gig down at Port Isaac and the days have been long and hot, which must mean its almost the Summer Holidays for evryone!

Its been nearly too hot on the land so i have been very happy to be busy with kayaking and SUP trips from Port Quin and Port Isaac.

Heres a quick pic from a couple of days ago down at Port Quin on a paddle boarding session.

We still have a bit of Summer availability in our cottages, so give us a yell if you are interested in staying, or if you are already booked in we look forward to seeing you soon!

Spring sunsets and new life down on the Farm

Spring and early Summer are a great time to come and experiance this bit of Cornwall, We are starting to see the sun heading back towards Pentire point and Port Quin bay for some spectacular sunsets. The main flock of sheep have all lambed, so there's lots of cute lambs bouncing around the fields! The second flock are just lambing now, so there's also lots of newborns. Down at a port Quin we are getting geared up to start taking out kayak trips, now the weather and sea are warming up! Give us a call or email to see if we can organise your Spring break!!

Febuary getaways!

Cornwall Winter Getaways

We have been having some anazing crisp and clear weather this January. Heres an image taken this week of one of my favourite beaches nearby. Theres hardly a sloul in sight at this time of year, even during the Febuary half term holidays. Make the most of it, and book your romantic getaway for your Valentine in one of our cosy little cottages like the farmhouse annexe or Stable, or treat the kids at half term to some vitamin SEA and stay in Trewint Farmhouse or Mouls Island barn. Either way we hope you can come and enjoy Cornwall at its quietest and most dramatic time of year.

A few small changes in 2017

Bedroom layout changes in 2017.

We are constantly trying to make our cottages a better and better place to stay.

With this in mind we have lowered the occupancy in all but Scarrabine Farmhouse Annexe for 2017.

Trewint Farmhouse will now sleep 5 in three bedrooms, Courtyard cottage will now sleep 4 in three bedrooms, Stable cottage wil sleep up to 3 in two bedrooms and Mouls Island barn will sleep up to 8 in 5 bedrooms.

By lowering the sleeps capacity in each cottage we hope to continue to make each place that little bit more cosy, quiet and nice for guests in the future. we really like the fact that we dont have any neighbours ( other than sheep and cattle) within a good 3/4 of a mile here on the farm, so we want to reflect this by keeping things simple.

We are waiting to get this fully updated on the website but please call or email Sam in the office with any questions on your particular family or group size.

Looking forward to hopefully seeing you in 2017.

Merry Christmas from all of us at Scarrabine farm!

Join us for Christmas or Newyear in a very special part of the world!

Christmas holidays in Cornwall

As the days get shorter and the sunsets earlier we look towards Christmas and New year holidays to share with family and freinds.

The good thing about this time of year is, it doesnt matter about the weather, its equally stunning if its rough and stormy or cold and crisp. The coastal path and beaches are gauranteed to refresh you and clear your head if needed!

We know its an important time of year for you, so we try and make our cottages as warm and welcoming as possible for Christmas or New year breaks. We provide logs for the woodburners ( even though the cottages are toasty warm with central heating anyway) We also add a Christmas tree and some festive treats if you are staying over Christmas!

We have been making the most of the early Summer season by getting out and about on the coast path and also snagging a few sunset surfs in the evenings.

We still have a couple of cottages available for the week commencing the 15th of July so if you or anyone you know is looking for a lovely place to stay please get in touch!

As we get a busier with our kayak trips and holiday bookings we may not be posting on here for a while but keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook pages for up to date happenings from the farm and Port Quin.

Cornish Coast Adventures

Now that the sea has started to warm up and the days are getting much longer, we have started running our activities once more.

If you have never been Sea Kayaking in Cornwall why not combine a stay in one of our cottages with a great adventure on the North Cornwall coast. We run our trips from Port Quin and other sheltered locations around this area. Recently we were lucky enough to paddle into some great caves at lundy Bay near Polzeath on one of our trips. If you have a holiday booked already with us or you are thinking about it, let us know and we can organise a kayak introduction session for families or a longer tour of the coast for bigger kids and adults as part of your holiday.

We gaurantee you will have a great time!

Day dreaming of days like these!

Swimming out to the cow and calf at port Quin

If you like your open water swimming then a must do at Port quin is to swim out to the rocks that gaurd the mouth of the harbour. you need to pick the right day or if its not quite so calm its still pretty amazing just swimming in the harbour itself.

Just one of the cool things to do in cornwall when you are on holiday here!

New additions to the Farm!

Hi there and hope you are having a great 2015 so far. we have lots of exciting plans for 2015 most importantly a new addition is coming to scarrabine as Sam and Doon are expecting a baby in June! If this isnt exciting enough before that we are expecting around 1600 baby lambs in Febuary and March from our sheep flock. This is the latest we have ever lambed the sheep so this year there will be more chances than ever to see the newborns at Easter, or before if you fancy a weekend or Febuary half term break down here with us.

We have re decorated Stable and Courtyard cottages this winter with Courtyard cottage receiving a swanky new bathroom and kitchen also.

We have some ideas for planting a vegatable garden up in the old victorian walled garden at Trewint so that guests can share in the fresh veggies and also even some chickens for fresh eggs but this is slightly dependant on how busy a spring we have on the farm so i will keep you updated on that one.

There are also ideas being thrown around about a fitness trail on the farm with some obstacle/exercise stations dotted a round a basic running route but again please watch this space...

Until next time

Sam Williams

As the wild atlantic roars back into life for some great storm watching and surf sessions you know in North Coprnwall that winter is on the way. So after a hard day out sorting sheep or chasing waves i always look forward to a welcoming fire and thats why we have at least one log burner in all of our properties alongside the central heating! Heres one we have just fitted in Mouls Island snug lounge.

Indian Summer in Cornwall

Summer has seemed to carry on right into October this year. The warm weather has been amazing and the really warm seas that are still hanging on are even better! Now we are looking towards the cosy Autumn and Winter months ahead so we have been busy collecting fallen trees and cutting them up to keep the woodburners in all the cottages well fuelled. The farm is slowely turning into winter mode with extra feed for some of the animals to keep them grownig well. The the winter cereals have all been planted and are sprouting nicely and the Rams have been busy boys with the Ewes so next years crops are all well on the way.

Moule Island barn complete and booking up fast!

The new barn has been almost there for a few weeks now, but we have just finished adding the final touches of pictures and nice little things to make the place that much more special for guests. My favourite bits are the stunning upstairs Kitchen/Dinning room with the open beams, sea views and fireplace, it really has got the wow factor as you come up the Oak staircase and see the room for the first time. I also really like the chunky Oak doors and frames throughout the building especially in the entrance hall where the heated slate floor really does give a warm welcome as you enter the barn.

Flying high!

We borrowed a Drone from some friends of ours last weekend and heres one of the results. I was trying to indicate how close to the sea at both Port Isaac and Port Quin but the perspective of the camera seems to make it look further away for some reason but hey its still a nce photo so thought i would share it!Airiel view

Mouls Island barn nearly complete!

Its been a very busy Winter and Spring with lambing all the sheep and helping the builder to finish off the new barn ready for Whitsun this year. Heres a few of the interior please note its not quite done yet.

January 2014

So another year has slid past us down here at Port Quin. The run up to the new year was spent working on the new barn conversion we are completing for the 2014 holiday season, its set to be a cracking place to stay with lots of ensuite bathrooms and amazing views down to Port Quin bay.We have, as always been busy on the farm with the cycle of seasons bringing the next set of jobs. At the moment we are all hands on deck with the lambing season which is going well after a bit of a shakey start. we have turned lots of young lambs out into the fields. We are now hoping for some sunny weather as the days start to get longer which will help the youngsters grow and be healthy. We have also now got the fun bit of the buying all the furnishings and carpets etc for the barn along with quite a lot of painting!

This first picture was taken by Mark Williams on the early morning stock check last week. Second is the lounge in the new barn.

September in Cornwall

September has almost gone and the harvest is all in on the farm, the holiday season has slowed down to a trickle which makes it a great time to come and stay in one of our holiday cottages. You get the footpaths to yourselves and the beaches as well if you pick the right beach and the right time! The weather is proving to be pretty nice and hopefully October will warm and wave filled along the coast for storm watchers and surfers alike!

On the farm the Rams have now been taken out from the Ewes so the ticking clock of mother nature is on its way for a January/Febuary lambing season. The winter cereals will soon be planted and our time is being spent between this and finishing off our new addition to our holiday cottages "Moules island Barn" so watch this space for some pictures!

Spring in Cornwall

Its a great time to be in Cornwall. The Lambs are running races on our farm and the cold crisp weather has been great for getting out for walks on the beach and even getting out on and in the waves for the more intrepid! We have availability for early season breaks in the cottages so let us know if you want to come down for a weekend or mid week break and we will give you the best possible price. Heres a nice pic of Goodrevy lighthouse i took the other day.

We are on several episodes of ITV's Cornwall series.

Paste this link into your browser and check out this episode theres lots of great views from around our Farm and the locality! Even some interviews with me, Mark and Dad!

Lambuary is nearly over.

We are down to the last 200 sheep in the flock to give birth. Pretty wild weather this week so some great storm watching out on the south west coast path! If you are looking for some Port Quin Accommodation let us know wether its a short winter break or a Summer holiday with friends and family.

28 Jan 2013

We are about 200 sheep into this lambing season now, with around 600 left to go! So far so good and the weather has been relitively kind. January has been blessed with great surf on the beaches as well so a few sneaky surfs have been happening in between tending the flock!

14 Jan 2013

Look out for us on ITV1

We spent quite a lot of time with Caroline Quentin and her film crew last Summer and the footage along with other family buisneses and Cornish delights are being shown on ITV1 each monday night at 8pm for the next 10 weeks! They filmed us on the Farm, around the cottages and out on the water with Coasteering and sea kayaking groups as well as some partying down at Port Isaac!

Mark cycles to Ireland for charity

This month things have quietend down on the farm as the Summer days dissapear. The harvest is all in, and thoughts are looking towards sowing the winter cereals and housing the stock in another few weeks time. Mark has just completed an epic cycle ride from here up through Cornwall, Devon and Somerset over to Wales then on the Ferry and up the coast of Ireland to Malin Head. To add a twist he also towed a trailer with his surfboard attached.

I went over to pick him up and on the way back we enjoyed a week surfing some great waves over on the west coast.

Pictured below: nephew Ollie starting the cycle with Mark! Pictured right: Sam getting a nice wave under the rainbow!

Summer sneaks away

The end of Summer is here, as much as i hate to admit it! The temperatures have dropped slightly but the sun is shining more than it did in August! Lots of last minute bookings in the cottages and still people keen to explore the beautiful coastline on the kayaks. Probably my favourite time oy year as the surf becomes more consistant and the crowds ease on the roads and on the beaches! The Rams will soon be taken out from the Ewes and all the harvest is in so the farm work will chill out as well. Soon be time for some holidays/travelling of our own. Mark heads off on Friday on a charity cycle ride up the coast of England to Wales and then up the west coast of Ireland, so good luck to him on his solo mission with bike, trailer and surfboard!

Green and pleasant land!

The view of the Farm and propertiesNormally the farm has dried up by now but the fields are all still green and lush due to the early summer rain. We have had some amazing weather in the last few weeks and all the livestock are very happy with full bellies and the sun on thir backs, Weinger the new sheep dog is also very happy and learning his trade out in the fields with Mark. Kayaking and Coasteering have been very busy down at CCA and the first of the harvest has been gathered in! All in all a busy but great time of year!!

Lambing update

They have been lambing like crazy! Over 300 in the first week have given birth, so its been very hectic. Luckily the winter gales have passed and the weather is mild and dry for turning the new arrivals out in to the fields with their mums.Still plenty left to lamb over the next 4 weeks but hopefully a bit slower as the sheds are full to capacity.

If you fancy a winter getaway give us an email for short break deals in any of the cottages. Get out on the coast path for some revitalising clifftop walks and salt air then head home and get the woodburner blazing with your feet up!

New born Lamb on new years day!

First Ewe to give birth did so overnight on New years eve, so a pleasant suprise to find a healthy single on New years day!

Keep your eyes peeled for regular updates on the lambing progress 1 down 899 to go!

Christmas on the farm.

Happy Christmas to all our guests old and new.

Everyone is now back from winter travels and on the farm for the winter work, with Lambing just a week or so away everyone is busy feeding animals and making sure all the sheds are ready for the new arrivals. Heres hoping for some dry and mild weather for the new lambs as any snow or extremely wet weather is bad news! All the cottages are full for Christmas and there has been plenty of great surf just down the road for guests to either watch, with wellies and  wax jacket from the cliff path! Or get the wetsuit on and get in there for some ice cream headaches and some salt water in the syneses!!

Seasons greetings and a happy new year to all!

Sam and the Williams family.

30 Dec 2011

Surf's up!

(above some coasteering with a group staying in the farmhouse recently, Sam demonstrates how to jump off "The big one" at the end of the session )

The Storm watching and surfing season has come early this year with huge swells hitting the beaches and headlands around us, we have been finding it hard to crack on with the farm work when we know the surf is so good! The important things are being done then its off down the coast path to find a sheltered spot where the waves are perfect. The main jobs on the farm have been to sort the rams and the ewes out as most of the ewes have now gone to the tup, the ticking time bomb of lambing is aproaching once more, so in around 4-5 months time there will be new born lambs everywhere all going well!!

We have plenty of availability in the cottages for Autumn and winter getaways and short breaks, so give us a call or email for more information.

13 Sep 2011

Summer is here!

The Farm is still very busy with the fat lambs and the fat cattle now being sold on a weekly basis, there is a hive of activity with sheep being regularly brought in to the yards using Mark's trusty motor bike instead of a sheep dog at the moment.

Sam's been busy out on the water with coasteering and kayaking sessions every few days. We even had a huge pod of Dolphins swim right through the middle of our kayak group a couple days ago, much to the delight of the wedding party that we were taking out kayaking!

We still have fee weeks in some cottages for the summer months, so give us a shout if you are interested in coming to stay with friends or family during July or August.

Shearing on the Farm

Sheared sheep enjoying the sunset at Port Quin

Shearing of the main flock of sheep commenced yesterday with a fairly easy day of 300 sheep between the contract shearers and Sam Williams. This is the first flock that the shearers have done this season. Day two is now here and a bigger target of around 4-500 will be the aim. the ewes are all seperated from their lambs for the shearing and then re united afterwards so we always try and keep this as swift as possible. Look out for a video on the website soon!

05 May 2011

Spring is here!

Spring is hereSpring is here on the Farm the main flock of 600 ewes have lambed and they are running around and getting quite big now! The second flock of 200 Ewe lambs ( 1 year olds ) have just started lambing so plenty of newborns for the Easter holidays. Around 100 acres of spring Barley has just all been planted in good conditions so fingers crossed it all grows ok and makes for a good harvest in late July. The kayaking and coasteering season is also underway with some flat seas and sunny weather we have taken our first few trips out. We still have a few weeks available in the cottages in April and May so let us know if you fancy a long weekend or a week down here.
